The benefits of boots on the ground

This summer teams from Investment Solutions, Engagement and Retirement Solutions were on the road to meet advisers and discuss some of the issues challenging our industry, along with the chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet some new ones.

Advisers arrived ready to listen and talk about how we, at Standard Life, are bringing retirement into focus. We’ve had fantastic sessions and discussed lots of questions and ideas.

We discussed auto-enrolment, the benefits it will bring for society and the opportunity it presents for advisers.  As with our webinars on auto-enrolment, the roadshow opened up lots of questions, scenarios and discussion on how the present this solution to clients and business owners.

Our Investment Solutions team talked through our approach to provide a range of investment choice across the full risk spectrum, from client-friendly pre-packaged solutions to individual, bespoke investment portfolios. We take some of the heavy lifting out to free advisers up to spend more time working with their clients on financial plans tailored to their needs.

Our Head of Engagement, Tara O’Donoghue outlined the depth of research we conduct each year with people on their journey to and through retirement, how we develop insights from this research and authentically tell the retirement stories that are unfolding across Ireland daily. Tara shared how advisers can leverage this content to improve the conversations they are having with their clients.

As is often the case, the real value of these events came at the breaks. Sitting with advisers and hearing what’s working and what challenges they are facing was very interesting. We need to work together to bring retirement into focus. We need to capitalise on the media interest in auto-enrolment to raise conversations across the country on why saving and planning for retirement matters. It matters more with the rising cost of living and the increase in life expectancy.

We are taking a break in August and will be back on the road in September, so please check in with your Business Manager to see where our next roadshow near you will be on.
